On this day three years ago, Jason discovered what many people had known for a long time: Greg Lewis can bake a mean cheesecake!
In April of 2015, Greg's surprise for Jason's birthday didn't exactly go according to plan. He had tried to secretly bake a cheesecake for Jason's party, but in the tiny basement apartment they shared, it wasn't easy to keep anything secret.
"So, whatcha baking in here?" asked Jason, hoping it might be a birthday cake.
Reluctantly, Greg replied "Well, it was supposed to be a surprise! You have to wait till tonight, mister."
A few hours later, with wine chilling and friends on their way, Greg brought out a beautiful New York Style Cheesecake topped with fresh berries. Needless to say, Jason was impressed. In fact, it was so pretty, he immediately started taking photos.
Later, after the birthday candles were all blown out, the conversation turned to the flavor of Greg's cheesecake. Everyone agreed that it was the best they had ever tasted!
"Seriously Greg, you should be baking your cheesecakes for the public!" Their friends cheered. "This is just too good!" It was a reaction Greg had heard many times before. He had been baking cheesecakes for friends and family, church potlucks, and charity auctions for many years. Inevitably, someone would always say, "You should be selling your cheescakes, Greg!"
Jason and Greg continued talking about that amazing reaction over the next few months. They decided that if Greg could keep baking beautiful, delicious cheesecakes, Jason could take photos, make a website, and handle social media marketing. They each had different skills to offer, and neither could have started a cheesecake business on their own. They were a perfect team.
Swirl Cheesecakes finally became a reality in November of 2015, when Greg and Jason posted the photo of that birthday cheesecake and announced that their new website was open for business! Right from the start, friends and family ordered cheesecakes every chance they got. Their business has been growing ever since!
April 25th is an important day, not just because it's Jason's birthday, but because it was day "The Swirl Guys" started creating the little company that would change their lives forever.
